Fair Trade is designed to help small-scale farmers in developing countries earn more money for their products. Fair Trade has rapidly evolved into a global consumer-based movement.
For organic coffee producers to sell their coffees in the US as "organic," these farmers must be inspected and certified by an independent organization accredited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. As a processor of organic foods, ALTERRA also is certified by a USDA-accredited agency.
